Welcome to the first of our two special, bumper-size Christmas issues for 2016 (the second will be on sale on 14 December). As promised last week, this is the biggest Christmas-related issue we’ve ever done – literally double the number of editorial pages than usual. (And it’s on sale for double the amount of time, too. Until 29 November). As we’ve given the content an A-Z theme and I’m kicking that off on this page, I’ve been thinking about the word that begins with ‘A’ that best sums up both Christmas and this issue. ‘She didn’t feel like my baby. I couldn’t hold or feed her’ When Hayley Goleniowska and her family take their annual Christmas stroll down the beach their joy is tinged with difficult memories. Advent – which begins on the Sunday nearest to the feast of St Andrew on 30 November (which makes it 27 November this year) and ends on Christmas Eve, is one of my favourite events in the church calendar. Polymyalgia rheumatica will affect over one in 50 of us, occasionally after the age of 50 years but usually after the age of 70. It’s twice as common in women. It’s an inflammatory condition that causes widespread muscle pain and stiffness, particularly around the shoulders and hips. Dear Keren My boss takes the company Christmas celebrations very seriously.
