In July 2013, when Samneet Samrai’s five-month-old daughter, Kyna, seemed a bit sniffly and lethargic, she took her to the GP – just to be on the safe side.
‘Like any first-time mum, I worried over every cough and splutter, but her temperature was high, too, so I thought it best I get a professional opinion,’ Samneet says.
Samneet, then 27, and her husband, Amarpal, 38, were reassured everything was fine, – but a few days later, when Kyna’s temperature hadn’t gone down, the GP decided to refer her to Ealing Hospital, suspecting she could have picked up a chest infection.
It turned out that Kyna’s touch of flu was just that – flu.
But the precautionary X-ray had revealed something more sinister, it showed a shadow on Kyna’s chest.…
