It’s always an exciting time when we refresh a magazine and we’ve had great fun updating Woman’s Weekly! Not only have we got a shiny new design, we’ve added lots of brand new ideas too. Slipping into the cellars of Parliament, Guy Fawkes was risking everything. It was 5 November 1605 when he and other Roman Catholics, led by Robert Catesby, plotted to blow up Parliament and assassinate King James. The plot was foiled, and King and Parliament survived – unlike Mr Fawkes, who was executed. Shortly after, 5 November was declared a day of celebration when bonfires would be lit. Nowadays, we still often burn a ‘Guy’, but for many, the evening is also about local history and traditions. Sepsis can be very difficult to notice at first, as symptoms may be vague or similar to a mild infection such as flu. It has previously been called septicaemia or blood poisoning. However, what seems mild can worsen quickly and needs hospital management. Symptoms are varied, from feeling generally unwell, feverishness, sweating and difficulty breathing or the skin feeling cold to more localised symptoms. Persistent vomiting, not passing any urine, and swelling and redness or pain around a wound may also be indicators. Similarly, look for skin changes such as blue, pale or blotchy skin, or a rash that doesn’t blanch when you roll a glass over it, as in meningitis. AGP practices should be open 8am to 8pm weekdays, but there’s local variation and it can be difficult to get an appointment. Google ‘NHS choices’ for service info in your area, or call 111 for advice and signposting to other services. I always loved playing netball at school – and after leaving, aged 16, I continued to play as part of the Young Farmers’ Club, until I was 26. I’m passionate about how people change how they’re thinking, feeling and behaving. And that fascination started when I experienced it myself in India 20 years ago. Amy Winehouse Amy – who died in 2011 – was a close friend and frequent photography subject of Bryan. She even visited him and his family over Christmas 2007 on the Caribbean island of Mustique, where he taught her to drive. Bryan once said, ‘I think she trusted me.
