We are lucky enough to be having our loft converted into a bedroom and so I’ve been clearing our attic space. I developed plantar fasciitis (pain around my heel and foot arch) after I started running. I couldn’t believe how debilitating it was and how awful it made me feel. The question of what makes us human fascinates me. About four years ago I went to Sweden to attend an event for people interested in living with greater mindfulness, meaning and wisdom in our modern age. One of the speakers was a Buddhist monk called Gelong Thubten. He was bald and dressed in red and yellow robes. A There are many possibilities – it might be an infection, a foreign body such as a thorn or grass seed, or an insect bite. You won’t necessarily be able to see any obvious mark on the outside. Typically, those will affect just one toe or foot, causing the dog to lick its foot a lot, limp when walking and be reluctant to walk, particularly on hard ground. Bruising is caused by damage to any tissues, breaking open blood vessels so blood cells pour into the tissue itself.
