Growing up in the Black Country, Wolverhampton to be exact, I don’t remember visiting many green spaces to go foraging as a child. I seem to recall I spent more time in concrete playgrounds playing  on red-hot slides and broken swings instead of trawling the local scrub. Mum always made her own clothes on her Singer sewing machine, which she bought in 1931. I still use it! Mum’s dress was made from a cream linen and had a navy belt and buttons. This Minton Majolica strawberry dish was made around 1860 and is in perfect condition. It’s moulded with berries, leaves and flowers and the well at one end is for the cream. Majolica is a brightly coloured tin-glazed earthenware made by various makers including Wedgwood and George Jones during the 19th century. This would be worth £80-£120 at auction. The Pratt ware pottery cow, calf and milkmaid group hails from Yorkshire. Pratt ware is underglazed painted cream or pearlware made from 1780 to 1840. This model, a money box, is recognised as by James Emery a Mexborough potter and was made in around 1820. Generally in good condition, though the cow is missing an ear, it’s worth around £500.
