Lesley Mahoney, 58, always knew her daughter Dominique was destined to be a mother. ‘You could just tell from the way she took her brother and sister’s hands to cross the road when she was little,’ she says, smiling. ‘She was a born natural.’
So when Dominique told her mother that she was planning to foster in 2006, aged 24, Lesley wasn’t surprised. ‘Dominique’s husband grew up in a foster family, and spoke very fondly of his experience, so it was something they always wanted to do together.’
Although they already had a one-year-old daughter, Phoebe, Dominique felt ready to give other children all the love and attention they needed.
