Both girls, Jess, now 19, and Melissa, 17, suffer from an extremely rare condition that impacts their vision.
‘It all began with a routine eye test for Melissa before she started school,’ Stephanie, 40, from Cheshire, explains. ‘She was short-sighted and needed glasses. We were told her vision would improve, but it didn’t – it got worse.
‘Eventually, she was referred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and tests revealed she had a condition called retinitis pigmentosa (RP). I was heartbroken.’
