‘I wasn’t offered counselling. I grieved alone’ Pam Davey already had two little girls, Mel, three, and Em, 18 months, when she found out she was pregnant for a third time in 1983. But while her first two pregnancies had been straightforward, this time Pam was convinced something wasn’t right. ‘My doctor had done a blood test and confirmed I was pregnant,’ Pam, 56, says. ‘To reassure myself, I did a home test at around 10 weeks, but it came back negative.’
Concerned, Pam went back to her doctor, who told her not to worry. However, when she reached 20 weeks, she started to bleed and was admitted to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
