A Chronic itching, especially at night, can be caused by skin conditions, stress and a wide variety of diseases that may also cause weight loss, fever or sweats. These include diabetes, thyroid, liver, kidney or neurological problems, blood disorders, scabies and iron deficiency anaemia, so I’m glad your tests are normal. Many medications can cause it, too, so check information leaflets.
Itching is triggered by histamine in the skin, which can be released by heat, cold weather, exercise, showering, swimming or scratching. We may also feel more itchy as our skin becomes drier with age.
