CEREUS VALIDUS
syn. Cereus forbesii; Cereus hankeanus
This tall, sculptural Cereus is one for the more experienced grower. Even in a pot, the blue–green cylindrical stems, armed with long spines, will eventually grow into a tree-like, branched plant. In spring to early summer, it produces large, funnel-shaped white or pinkish-white flowers, followed by inedible red fruits.
HEIGHT AND SPREAD Each stem can grow to up to 1.5m x 10cm (5ft x 4in).
CARE NOTES Likes full sun. In spring and summer, water when the top 2cm of compost is dry. In autumn, reduce watering. Keep plants dry in winter. Wear cactus gloves when handling this plant.
