‘Normalising drinking is a terrible idea’
Emma Elms, 44, lives in London with her partner, Stuart, 44, and their daughters, Amelie, 11, Fifi, eight, and Belle, two.
I’m amazed so many parents let their kids drink at home. I won’t even let my 11-year-old have a sip of wine with dinner. If you allow a sip, it normalises drinking at way too young an age, which is a terrible idea. Next thing you know, they’ll be secretly downing tequila slammers on sleepovers. For a child’s body, even a couple of mouthfuls could make them tipsy. I’m not an overly strict mum but letting them drink at home, even at 13, gives a ‘green light’ to drink when you’re not there. My own mum wouldn’t let me drink at home…
