HAVE YOU HEARD? Motorists are having their bank cards stolen by fake traffic wardens in a new scam, warns Action Fraud. Drivers are approached in their cars or a car park by someone dressed as a traffic warden or police officer. The fraudsters claim the victim has parked illegally or broken a speed limit and that they have proof. They say the victims will face a substantial fine unless they pay a smaller fee up front. Victims are then taken to a parking meter, where they’re told to input their bank card. The fraudster watches them enter their PIN before the machine ‘swallows’ the card.
