Five years ago, I was newly divorced and lonely, and my phone filled a gap. But even when I met Simon in 2013, I didn’t stop relying on my phone. I’d usually be on it for more than nine hours a day and I felt awful about it, but I couldn’t help it.
As a result, I developed intense pain in my thumb and wrist, and know it’s a repetitive strain injury from scrolling.
In bed, I’d want to read self-help books about mindfulness, yet ironically, they’d go untouched in favour of scrolling.
