Denise Jackson’s heart swells with pride as she watches her three daughters going about the daily grind, running their family farm, Brookville, in Boho in Victoria’s north-east.
Losing Gavan, her husband of 37 years on July 2, 2002, following a gruelling battle with motor neurone disease, Denise, her three daughters Donna, 55, Lou, 52, Mel, 50, and granddaughter Ruby, 14, couldn’t bear to see the livelihood he had worked so hard to create fade away. Joining forces, the Jackson ladies took on the running of the 450-hectare sheep and cattle property.
“Gavan was a devoted farmer and family man,” Denise, 75, tells Woman’s Day. “He was stoked with the wonderful life we’d built together.”
