As I write this letter from my home office (lounge room), in the background the television is firmly set, as it has been all week, on the Olympics. Like so many others around the country, I have eagerly kept up with our Aussie athletes as they’ve made their mark in Tokyo. Bibliotherapy might seem to be the new kid on the therapeutic block, but in actual fact, the concept of using books as therapy has been around for centuries. The Ancient Greeks were the first to believe in the healing powers of literature, and since then we can attest to the comfort a good book can bring. SERVES 4 Place 2 cups black rice in a bowl and pour in enough water to cover. Soak 2 hours, then rinse and drain. Combine soaked rice and 12 cups water in a saucepan.
