Rachel may be vying for the title of Sole Survivor and the $500,000 prize, but the teacher is already the proud owner of another shiny accolade – 2020 Australian of the Year for Queensland.
“It was for the lives we’ve changed and the lives we’ve saved with Stymie,” the mum-of-two, 50, tells Woman’s Day of the website she created in 2013, which allows students to anonymously report harm.
“Last year we delivered 66,000 notifications about everything from bullying to sexual harassment, family violence, illegal activity...
“We do get emails from principals saying, ‘Rachel, I can’t give you the details, but our kids used Stymie to save a boy’s life yesterday.’ It’s as fulfilling as it is heartbreaking.”
