For decades we have celebrated the Aussie summer – a time for coming together and making the most of all our country has to offer. But sadly, this one we will remember as the summer Australia was heartbreakingly brought to its knees. It is near impossible to find the words to describe the devastation, the pain and the suffering Aussies across the nation have endured in the wake of the bushfires that have ravaged our beautiful land, leaving so many with so little. Here at Woman’s Day, like so many of you, we have been desperate to help those in our community, many of them our readers, who will now be forced to restore their lives from the ashes. Today, we launch our Rebuild Our Towns campaign, supporting the Australian…
If you were to ask any one of the locals from the town of Glen Innes how they’re holding up in the aftermath of bushfires that raged through the community, you won’t hear a single complaint. The inhabitants of this steely town and its surrounding villages nestled in the NSW Northern Tablelands are resilient to the bone and tougher than a pair of well-worn boots. “We’ve lost so much, but the focus now is to wipe off the ash and get back up and be stronger than ever,” deputy mayor Di Newman tells Woman’s Day. “We’re a close-knit community, and we’re determined to rebuild.” And it’s a heartfelt statement that echoes throughout the area. In November last year – while already battling the worst droughts in history – Mother Nature…
It was Friday, November 8 – a day that 27-year-old Wytaliba resident Storm Sparks will never forget. Hugging her one-year-old son Zeke, silent tears rolled down her cheeks as she watched in horror as the town’s little school was swallowed up by flames. “We were home and the fire was coming for us, so I grabbed Zeke and we took refuge on the school oval. The flames engulfed everything in seconds,” Storms remembers. The local school was first opened in 1984, with Storm’s grandmother Carol Sparks, the current mayor of Glen Innes, helping to establish it. “I went there from Kindy to Grade 5, and Zeke would have been attending his playgroup this year. It’s going to be a difficult time for us all, but we have to rally and…

She’s almost as well known for embracing her curves as she is her show-stopping voice, but British singer Adele is fading away before her fans’ eyes. The 31-year-old displayed her incredible weight loss on holiday in the Caribbean last week with friends Harry Styles – who some say she’s romantically involved with – and TV host James Corden, where she splashed on the beach in a polka-dot frock. Sources tell Woman’s Day her incredible slimdown – shedding 19kg so far – comes from a combination of hard dieting and heartbreak. The kilos started coming off when she split from Simon Konecki, the father of her son Angelo, seven, last year, says an insider. “But it kind of spurred her to make other changes in her life, and she’s never looked…
