I’ve recently returned from a trip to Hawke’s Bay with my partner Minou, who announced halfway through he’d like to live there. After standing at the top of Te Mata Peak and looking out over that ridiculous postcard-perfect scenery, I was tempted to say, “Sure, babe. I’ll start packing.” Hawke’s Bay doesn’t get enough credit. You think you know it – vineyards, sunshine and nice food – then you just stand at the top of that peak and your brain short-circuits for a moment. It’s utterly breathtaking.
