Bafta president Prince William made the out-of-character decision to skip the annual awards ceremony, but the dutiful royal had a good reason – the 42-year-old had whisked the Princess of Wales, 43, and their three kids, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, to the tropical paradise of Mustique for a much-needed family holiday.
“There’s got to be some silver linings to going through a life-threatening illness, and for Kate and Wills, it’s given them complete control over their schedules,” explains an insider.
“There was never any expectation that they would attend the Baftas and they really needed this break, so it seemed a good time to get away to one of their favourite hotspots.”
