In March 1998, 10-year-old Natascha was kidnapped by 36-year-old Wolfgang Priklopil and held in an underground cellar for more than eight years in Vienna, Austria.
For the first six months, Natascha was imprisoned in a small, soundproof, windowless chamber. After six months, she was given a little more freedom and allowed in other areas of Priklopil’s home, but only when he was present.
Sexually assaulted and frequently starved by her captor, Natascha later told how every day in captivity began with them having breakfast together.
“There was housework, reading, television, talking, cooking,” she shared. “That’s all there was, year in and year out, and always tied in with the feeling of being lonely.”
