Few of us have lived lives untouched by this cruel disease, but in such a young, healthy woman with three small children, it seems especially unfair. Talking openly about sexual assault can be taboo, with recent studies suggesting nearly a third of victims never tell anyone about their experience. But it’s an issue Auckland actress and writer Connor Amor-Bendall refuses to stay silent about. A few years ago, Connor was the victim of a sexual assault while at university. It’s official – octogenarian and three-time cancer survivor Heather Maddern is the world’s strongest great-grandmother. In December, Heather set multiple Australian and world powerlifting records when she deadlifted a whopping 80kg at a competition. “If anyone had told me 12 months ago that I’d be lifting 80 kilos and setting a world record, I’d never have believed them,” the 80-yearold tells Woman’s Day from her Brisbane home. “But powerlifting has given me a new lease of life.” The Mater Private Hospital Redland patient, who also has Parkinson’s disease, only began strength training last April. “I needed something to inspire me and give me that zest for living again,” she tells. Happy as Harry AMANDA SAYS Harry tells me he suffered from seizures and the last one took his life. He experienced a lot of anxiety, and says he he was abandoned and lived on the street for a while. He was in very poor shape when Robyn got him, but he didn’t take long to recover from all his problems once he was in her care – he was running around again in no time. Harry loved his human dad and brother too. Robyn’s lovely dad then comes through, bringing two other dogs named Maddy and Murphy. Yung chow fried rice Whip up this takeaway fave at home! SERVES 2 Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a wok or large frying pan, then fry off 2 beaten eggs like an omelette.
