The question of whether or not being a mum is a “real job” was in the news recently. Debate roared over whether mums who stay at home to look after their kids can be regarded as “working” in an actual “job”. Ummm, hello? I’ve done both. I can tell you, absolutely nothing, not even shift work like my current job of getting up at 3am every day, compares to the hard graft of being a stay-at-home mum. Parenting is a job – and then some. And it’s not a contest between working mums and stay-at-home mums. Anyone raising a child, whether at home full-time or while in paid employment, is working their butt off.
