MAGGI HAMBLING
K nown for intricate sea and landscapes, Hambling, 75, now a CBE, is also a sculptor. Her 2020 statue of Mary Wollstonecraft sparked controversy for portraying her naked – a choice the artist vehemently defended. She also sculpted Oscar Wilde’s memorial in London’s Charing Cross. Maggi Hambling’s 2020 exhibition at Marlborough Gallery, London, showed Lion in Enclosure, 2019, Young Dancing Bear, 2019, Covid Spring, 2020 (pictured), and Self Portrait Working, 2020, The 2020 exhibition also marked Hambling’s 75th birthday.
