1 CALIFORNIA WINE COUNTRY WILDFIRES
With scores of casualties and over 245,000 acres and 8,400 homes destroyed across Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake and Solano Counties, September’s devastating and seemingly endless wildfires were center stage for wine stories this year. Actual winery and vine destruction was limited, but labor loss and displacement of workers, as well as firefighter support and potentially lost tourism dollars, are just some of the formidable challenges the future holds. Swift and unified mobilization for short- and long-term relief not only helped lessen the heavy rescue and rebuilding load, but proved just how big these regions’ hearts really are.
