The world seems to have gone mad with terrorist attacks in the Middle East, Europe, north and eastern Africa, violence in Zimbabwe, racism and xenophobia throughout the world, a global economic melt-down, Brexit… you name it. And because of the clichéd ‘global village' idea, all of these impact our local economy, often severely. We, therefore, need to be aware of global trends to forecast activities and strategise on how we need to respond.
The first trend we need to take note of, is the so-called ‘greenies'. Maslow's hierarchy of needs applies when we talk about animal rights, vegetarianism, veganism and the like versus poverty, hunger, hunting and bush-meat. It divides the world into two, the affluent and the poor, with their different realities.
