More than 5.5 million family history records from the US state of Connecticut are available on a new free website, Connecticut Genealogy (connecticutgenealogy.org).
The site has searchable indexes of 576,638 births (1897-1917), 2,180,700 marriages (1897-2017), 2,086 civil unions (2005-2010) and 2,772,116 deaths (also 1897-2017). Connecticut Genealogy was set up by Reclaim the Records (reclaimtherecords.org), a US nonprofit organisation that campaigns to put family history records in the public domain, which obtained the indexes using Freedom of Information requests.
The site's search facility features tools including automatic nickname and partial-name searches, wildcard searches, automatic typo or lettertransposition searches, and daterange searches to the exact day, designed to make it easier for family historians to find records of their ancestors in the state.
