The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) has digitised two crucial record sets from Northern Ireland.
The record sets cover the six Irish counties later designated as Northern Ireland: Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone.
The first record set, ‘Northern Ireland Tithe Applotment Books 1823–1837’ (FIN/5/A), is divided into 275 volumes, one for each parish. The content is subdivided by townland, and for each townland the names of the occupiers, the areas subject to tithe, the valuation and the tithe payable are all recorded.
The second set, ‘National Education Commissioners Grant Aid Applications’ (ED/1), consists of 33 volumes of applications made to the Commissioners of National Education for grants for building schools in Northern Ireland, paying teachers, and funding textbooks and equipment.
