Anyone with the surname Staniforth, or with ancestors bearing the name, is invited to get in touch with the Staniforth Society, which aims to be one of the largest one-surname groups of its kind.
The society was founded by 25-year-old Nathan Staniforth, who grew up in Sheffield but now lives in Texas and is seeking to link Staniforths around the world using DNA and family history research.
The Staniforths have a long history in Yorkshire and Derbyshire. Staniforth & Co, a sickle and scything business, was founded by Thomas Staniforth in the village of Hackenthorpe near Sheffield in 1740, and continued to operate until 1980.
