Interwar Newcastle
The highlight of this month’s trio of titles from genealogical suppliers My History (my-history.co.ukmy-history.co.uk) is Ward's Directory of Sunderland, Wallsend, Newcastle, and Gateshead, 1937. Worth £12, this impressively vast directory includes county-wide information covering Northumberland and Durham, before its sections of village, street, alphabetic and trade directories covering Newcastle, Sunderland, Wallsend Gateshead and Newcastle. The latter covers Bell’s Close, Benton and Longbenton, Benwell, Fenham, Forest Hall, Lemington, Newburn, Gosforth and Coxlodge, Scotswood, Walker and Walker Gate. Unusually for old trade directories, the maps of Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland survived in this volume and are included.
