Hertford Campers start by importing a Honda N-Van, which is a vehicle not officially sold here, so it comes in as a grey import and goes through the IVA Type Approval scheme. The N-Van is a Kei car, a special category of lightweight vehicle developed for the Japanese domestic market. TOURNE is a new name in the UK but it’s already making a name for itself with its top-quality, Peugeot Boxer-based campervans. It offers two ranges – Cruise and the more upmarket Select – each with a choice of six-metre or 6.36m lengths, the latter allowing a bigger rear bedroom. The Select is new this season and benefits from more elaborate furniture and a higher-spec base vehicle. It comes only with the 180hp motor and eight-speed automatic transmission, while a host of extra standard kit includes front fog/cornering lights, a wireless phone charger, reversing camera, digital dash, automatic climate control, 10in touchscreen, lane keeping, attention assist, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control and the electric parking brake. WE all want to be first. From first in the egg and spoon race at school to first in the queue to get off the ferry in our motorhome, being first never loses its appeal. The car industry has long known this. It used to be a competition to have the first new registration in your street on the first of August. REAR lounge layouts are a British phenomenon, largely ignored on the Continent. They often appeal to former caravanners buying a motorhome for the first time, as the layout is more familiar and the cab quite separate. And, of course, it’s not hard to see the appeal of the views out through windows on three sides – or triple-aspect glazing in estate agent-speak! The downside of these models is usually a lack of storage as there’s no fixed bed to provide a base for a garage. ETRUSCO builds campervans (its CV and CV Plus models on Fiat Ducato) and lowprofile (or semi-integrated) coachbuilt motorhomes on a choice of Fiat Ducato or Ford Transit chassis. This is neither, it’s what Etrusco calls a Van, or what we’d usually refer to as a narrow-bodied or slimline low-profile motorhome.
