For the third time in the last five years, Stephen Zhang has taken the top prize in the Springfield Art Museum's Watercolor USA annual juried exhibition. Zhang, from Plano, Texas, received the Kenneth M. Shuck Memorial Award for his entry, Break. Two of the artist's other artworks, Hidden and Mindspace, received the exhibition's top awards in 2021 and 2019, respectively.
Born in China, Zhang graduated from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts. He received his MFA from the University of North Texas. Zhang has been painting in watercolor for more than 30 years, fi rst under the tutelage of his father, Defu Zhang, and later the late professor Rob Erdle.
