Creative Coachworks has a reputation for turning out quality work, and have turned their hands to Porsche-powered Buses in the past, namely a black and white Samba with full Porsche running gear. It was an awesome piece of kit and memorable for all the right reasons. We weren’t the only ones impressed by that particular project, as speaking with the owner of this similarly Porsche-flavoured Bus, Symmr Sandhu, we discovered that Samba was the inspiration behind this build. ’73 Bay Window, Peter and Gail Stone Peter and Gail Stone bought their 1973 Bay Window already restored just over a year ago, they say that all they have done is to add some shiny bits. “We owned Campervans when our children were young and now they have flown the nest, we thought we’d buy ourselves another one,” says Peter. “We weren’t looking too hard, just perusing a few online adverts, but when we attended a show at Mersea Island in Essex and this Bay Window pulled in, Gail suddenly said, “I want that one.” Unfortunately the owner didn’t really want to sell. When it comes to car shows, it’s not very often we let ‘non car’ people in to experience why we enjoy this hobby so much; we tend to lock ourselves away on an old airfield or behind the gates of a racecourse. The summer of 2018 saw me coming to the ominous realisation that the constant loss of oil I was experiencing with the Camper was probably more that just the main-bearing seal or leaky push-rod tubes. There was a distinct knock on start up which was a pretty big clue that it was time for a reconditioned engine swap. Being that I work for JK, this was a fairly easy task and with help from my colleagues we were able to do the bulk of the work over a day. I had always been cautious of taking the Camper overseas because of concerns about the engine. T4S/5S IN THE MAGAZINE Hi James, I must admit I was surprised to see a T5 in the mag, but now I go both ways, I have a T4 and a ’75 Bug, although my dream Bus is James Murtough’s old '52 Barndoor. I personally think the odd one now and again in the mag wouldn’t hurt as long as it’s something really special or like the T5 you just featured, done nicely but to a budget.
