Colour has always been my great tool for taking traditional themes and modernising them,” says British-Ghanaian fashion designer Ozwald Boateng, OBE, of his 40-plus years bringing jewel-hued suits to the runway. One of Savile Row’s most dynamic contemporary tailors, Boateng applied that to his first furniture collection, designed and made with centuries-old Italian furniture manufacturer Poltrona Frau.
When the collaboration debuted during London Design Festival in September 2023, the Italian brand’s London showroom pulsated with an electric energy. Boateng’s hallmark shades of emerald, ruby, amethyst, citrine and sapphire were swathed across the new Culture & Craft capsule collection’s three-seater sofas, armchairs and ottomans, as well as a new Beautilities accessories range comprised of vases, wallpaper — a first for Poltrona Frau — and scented candles.
