HISTORY AS LEYLAND LIKED US TO SEE IT
Everybody has their own theory about what went wrong at British Leyland and why the Empire built-up by Donald Stokes and his management regime – together with large portions of Patriotic zeal – ultimately crumbled within little more than a working lifetime.
Some say it was all the fault of ‘The Unions’ and point to what, in some cases, amounted to criminal acts of self-destruction, orchestrated by the likes of ‘Red Robbo’ and his cohorts. Some suggest that the whole British Leyland debacle was brought to a head as a result of Governmental blindness in not supporting British-owned manufacturing industries sooner, while at the very same time wasting £Millions trying to attract Foreign ‘investors’.
