It follows the real-life trial of author Michael Peterson in 2003. It’s more of a production than most trials in the US because murder-accused (now convicted) Michael proclaimed his innocence by making a doccie about it before he saw the inside of a court. “When I read the script, I knew immediately that I wanted to do this project,” says lead star Colin Firth (Galahad in the Kingsman action spy film franchise). “I knew nothing of Michael, of the murder or the documentary that he had made. “My biggest challenge from the outset has been how to make the audience not hate Freddy,” says Rohan Dickson, writer-creator of new local drama series Desert Rose, season 1 airs Thursdays on M-Net (*101) at 20:30. “Many people in South Africa know what it is to have a father who abandoned them. It’s hard to get the audience to empathise, or at least not hate this character throughout. The characters all fight for Freddy (and ask), ‘When is he coming back? Good day, e.tv insists on bombarding us with local content but yet again I see Uzalo will be cancelled. I also saw somewhere that Durban Gen will be cancelled. So this should tell them that most of their viewers do not want to watch local content. Yet they persist with it. The only local programmes I like are Scandal! and Imbewu. I have complained in the past about not being able to record SABC 1,2 & 3. Also, while recording you are not able to watch those channels. This is still a problem. Another problem I have found with recording e.tv programmes is that one show overlaps the next. e.g. if you set a recording you will get the last part of the previous show and you do not get to see…
