This is the second tvplus edition to come out in 2021 and it already feels like the country has been through an entire year of emotions thanks to the unrelenting COVID-19 pandemic. Our little team of merry TV fanatics has been hit harder already than 2020 combined, and it’s been tough reading headlines daily of struggles and people having a tougher than usual time. So we count our blessings that we have readers and people who’re as equally passionate about television as we are, engaging with us daily via SMS and email, as well as on our social media platforms. Almost Family is the US version of 2017 Australian drama series Sisters. While the shows are fictional, the premise isn’t. In 2019, 20 cases were opened against fertility specialists who were accused of using their own sperm to impregnate patients – and it’s not new. Season 1 was filmed long before COVID-19 shut down TV productions in early 2020, so the protocols for the second instalment were entirely new for the cast and crew. Jason explains that it didn’t feel like a real change though. “[Production company] Rapid Blue and the team prepared incredibly well. They’ve put into place all the safety steps mandated by government and they’ve actually gone above and beyond. We as the cast don’t need to worry about doing anything – the team take care of it. Like during filming games, they wipe down the props with sanitiser before you even see them. We don’t have the couches anymore, they’ve been replaced with single-seater chairs. It’s effortless to be safe during filming and that makes our jobs easier.”…
