Name: Genevieve Terblanche Position: senior writer, television is my sanity I am watching: Norsemen seasons 1-2 (2016-2017) on Netflix. My take on this show: Norsemen brings series like Vikings (2013-now) down to earth with a pratfall. It’s set in a Viking village in the 790s and fantastic, historically accurate production design and costuming make it feel just like a blood-guts-and-swords historical drama. But by juggling modern sensibilities with (again, accurate) traditional Viking laws and culture, Norsemen achieves absurdity. The show features a pompous, delusional new slave – Roman Thespian Rufus (Trond Fausa Aurvåg) – who gives a horrified outsider’s perspective on this “barbarian” village. If you grew up with the Asterix books (1959-2019), this is a familiar and enjoyable take on ancient history. Not suitable for kids. My favourite moment…

At tvplus we watch an absurd amount of television. And while we might not like all of it, we do our best to give every show a fair viewing. But it’s not all work. We do get passionately attached to shows. Streaming allows us to follow series and binge to our hearts’ delight, and also fit our favourite shows in around all the live TV viewing that we do professionally. It allows us to sit back with a sweet, funny pick-me-up after reviewing intense dramas and thrillers on dark topics. I’m sad to see her leave but Hope hasn’t been the same on Days Of Our Lives without Bo (Peter Reckell). My favorite but saddest scene was when Hope found out that her son Zack had died.
