NO ONE SERVED up attitude better than Linda Lavin. As the star of the hit sitcom Alice (1976–85), slinging hash at Mel’s Diner in Phoenix while waiting for her big break, Lavin became a household name after honing her sardonic style on Broadway, where she would later win a Tony Award in Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound. Severance is a sci-fi thriller by way of a surreal workplace satire, with creepy and disorienting echoes of David Lynch and Jordan Peele in its DNA. Mesmerizing in its strangeness, the show only gets wilder and weirder in Season 2.
