WHEN BONES SHOWRUNNERS Michael Peterson and Jonathan Collier plotted a final season for the long-running crime procedural, their goal was clear: “Resolve key issues for Booth and Brennan,” Peterson says. First up: A mysterious figure from Booth’s (David Boreanaz) past returns. “It’s someone who was referenced in Season 1, from his time as a sniper,” Peterson teases. “It takes an emotional toll on Brennan [Emily Deschanel] as well. If something your spouse did before you even knew them comes back and there’s horrible reverberations, something shifts.” Another complication? As the star of Fox’s bawdy The Mick—about a lowlife caring for her sister’s kids—the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia vet rocks the physical comedy and caustic wit with Emmy-worthy abandon. Cheers to Trollhunters for finding that sweet spot. Not only does Netflix’s animated series look gorgeous, but it’s also an entertaining mashup of kiddie heroics, lovable monsters and cheeky laughs that will slay viewers of all ages. If you’re making bets on who’ll win at the Golden Globes, smart money favors the underdog. (Last year, Mozart in the Jungle’s win for best comedy and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom for comedy actress upset many an office pool.) WHEN NBC’S HIT drama This Is Us was looking for an iconic TV dad to play himself in the pilot episode, the choice was a natural one: Alan Thicke. Every generation has a TV dad they admire and fondly remember, and Thicke was the “father knows best” of the 1980s. (He’s also the father of singer Robin Thicke and two other sons.)
