The question everyone is asking about The Walking Dead’s season premiere is whether it went too far in its depiction of violence. I’ve heard many people claim they were done with the show after watching this episode. Are they overreacting? —Rob MATT ROUSH: I’m not sure Dead can ever truly go too far, given that much of its success (including monster ratings for the opener; see page 11 for more) is due to its reputation for going to extremes. NETFLIX @TheCrownNetflix SCANDAL DOGGED QUEEN Elizabeth II even before she donned the almighty crown, with cries of “unconscionable vulgarization” when husband Philip advocates airing her 1953 coronation on (horrors) new-fangled TV. This earns a laugh in Peter Morgan’s sumptuous and (this being Netflix) languorous The Crown, because a more elegant, ravishing TV entertainment is hard to imagine. The coronation is the centerpiece of Episode 5, at the midpoint of an enthralling 10-episode first season that’s less a binge than a glorious wallow in highest-end royal soap opera.
