Vast, pristine and largely undiscovered, the Selous Game Reserve covers 50,000 sq km of rolling savannah, mountains, forest, lakes, rivers and deltas.
A World Heritage Site and Africa’s largest wildlife reserve, Selous is home to large herds of elephant, as well as sizeable populations of lion, buffalo, crocodile, hippo, wild dog, wildebeast, zebra and more than 400 species of bird, as well leopard, cheetah and some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhinos.
Flowing through the reserve is the meandering Rufiji River, which draws huge volumes of game to its network of channels, lakes and swamps, particularly during the dry season, which runs from July through to November.
