Welcome to our first issue of 2024... seems rather strange to be typing this as the team works on this issue before the Christmas break. Personally, I am a big fan of starting afresh, as a new year promises lots of adventures and opportunities to learn new skills and try stuff you might not be so confident in. We all know how cosy it is to snuggle under a quilt on chilly days, so how about a quilted garment or accessory for some portable warmth? Petals, curves & swirls This swirling curvy block is made almost entirely from squares cut 2in x 2in. Some squares are folded in half and layered onto other squares – these make the curves once the whole design has been pieced. Others are left as simple squares, and the combination results in a curvy four-petalled flower. It’s hard to see this when the block is first assembled with all those straight-edged HSTs, but once the folded edges are rolled back and stitched, the design is transformed and the curvy flower is revealed. Three (3) fabrics are combined to make each flower petal, with a contrasting fabric adding interest at the centre of the flower.
