WHAT IS FABRIC COUNT? Materials, like aida and evenweave, are woven with an equal number of threads in each direction. This means you can make square stitches on them, which is perfect for cross stitch! The number of stitches to be worked in a 1in line will be the ‘count’ (or holes per inch (HPI)) of that particular fabric. For example, you’ll fit 14 stitches per inch on 14-count fabric, 16 stitches on 16-count fabric, and so on. You’ll also fit the exact same number of stitches per inch when working over two threads on evenweave. For example, 28-count evenweave equates to 14 stitches, the same as 14-count aida. Or if working over one, you’ll fit double the number of stitches in the same space, with 28 stitches per inch.…

While I love the warm weather of the summer months, I know that for many of you readers, autumn is your favourite season. There’s so much to enjoy in nature as well as the fun festivities. It won’t be a surprise to you that as this is our October issue, we’ve got Halloween covered with a wonderful set of dressing-up motifs by Durene Jones for trick or treat party fun, or little cylinder lanterns to pop over your LED tea lights by Fiona Baker. One of the best times of the year is that magical moment, on the cusp of autumn, when we start to see the leaves change colour. There’s an unmistakable crispness in the air, and the days just start to feel different. Having fun during the changing of seasons is this fluffy feline in a pile of crunchy leaves, in orange, brown and green. With this being the third part of our seasonal kitty series, most are familiar with how to create Margaret Sherry’s iconic fluffiness.
