The inspiration for this simply stunning pattern is straight out of a real garden. Following a visit to the Green & Gorgeous Flowers garden in Oxfordshire, we wanted to celebrate this beautiful place in cross stitch. We asked designer Jenny to artistically recreate a scene so that our readers could enjoy the moment too. This detailed design is suited to more experienced stitchers – look out for the different stitch types and strand quantities, as well as the gold beads in the flower centres. The fabulously fantastical stories of the Greek gods have held a wide appeal to all ages for centuries and it’s still the case today. The goddess Hera was Queen of the gods of Mount Olympus as well as Zeus’ wife. History records her as a wise protector and patroness of women, particularly in matters of marriage and childbirth, but also with a tendency towards revenge. One of her icons is the peacock, to symbolise immortality and renewal. Designer Maria has brought her to life in this striking pattern and there will be more to follow over the coming months.
