AUGUST 1 marked a return to partial normality for a number of our preserved railways, seeing the first public passenger trains run since the early spring.
The weekend marked a second phase of post-Covid reopenings, with several heritage lines having already resumed operations during mid-July.
Among those relaunching services on the Saturday were the Avon Valley, Churnet Valley, Dean Forest, Epping Ongar, Llanberis Lake, Llangollen, North Yorkshire Moors, Severn Valley, Talyllyn, and Welshpool & Llanfair Light railways, with others reopening the following day- August 2.
For the bigger lines that are employers and provide the livelihoods for many, the return to operation has allowed them to take a collective sigh of relief, although the overall recovery will be an on-going and lengthy process.
