OVER the last 90 years the RCTS has become one of the foremost publishers of steam locomotive histories, which have come to be relied on by researchers, historians, and book and magazine publishers.
The first of what has become a long series of books was published in 1951 when the Locomotives of the GWR Part One Preliminary Survey appeared, and the latest, telling the story of the LMS ‘Patriots’, has just published by the RCTS.
The genus for these well-researched books can be traced back to the early days of the Railway Observer when articles, often in many parts, were written detailing the histories of well-known and relatively obscure classes, belonging to pre-Grouping companies, the‘Big Four’ and industrial concerns.
