Three episodes into “Shrill,” on Hulu, there’s a sequence that’s like a mission statement for the show. Annie Easton (Aidy Bryant), a blogger at an alt weekly in Seattle, finds herself doing what she often does: apologizing—in this instance, it seems, to a car. “I’m sorry, no, you can go,” she mutters, stepping on and off the sidewalk, as the driver shoots her a confused, annoyed look. Behind her, another woman appears. She’s a stranger, a fat woman, like Annie—but, unlike Annie, she’s serene, smiling, wearing a hip red pants suit and a skinny pink belt.
