Crime has never not made for popular TV, but that’s felt even truer in recent years. There are shows revisiting famous transgressions from more enlightened perspectives, or more playful ones. There are procedurals centering on cops, and limited series delving into the psychologies of perpetrators. There are crime dramas that double as character studies, cultural critiques or meta examinations of the genre. In that landscape, a new one needs to stand out via style, performances, sense of purpose or an irresistible gimmick. After news broke that Justin Roiland was charged with felony domestic violence in Orange County, several questions remain unanswered about the fate of his sprawling animation empire.
