On Sept. 19, filmmaker Deon Taylor and partner Roxanne Taylor of Hidden Empire Film Group (Black and Blue, Meet the Blacks) will host a community gathering in Compton with Jamie Foxx, Michael Ealy and Marlon Wayans. There will be music, food, 3,000 T-shirts and up to $10,000 in gas cards to give away and a Rolls-Royce Phantom as a photo backdrop. But the most important element, Deon says, will be voter registration forms. The drive-thru event is via the Taylors’ Be Woke Vote initiative in partnership with Compton mayor Aja Brown, Compton Kidz Club, Youth Vote and the NAACP of Compton.
