Getting there: Slovenia has borders with Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. Easyjet flies to Ljubljana, the greenest capital in Europe, from Gatwick and Luton; another option is Ryanair to the quiet airport at Trieste in Italy, close to the border. When to go: May to September is the ideal time for walking and outdoor activities, when daytime temperatures are usually around 25°C.
